RE: 2005 Avanti Convertible Sport Coupe
Things get stranger and stranger. I clicked on the site given by the original poster on this thread and learned that the '06 Avanti is NOT powered by the 350 GM engine like the '03 I saw was. You have a choice. A 4L SOHC V6 with an anemic 210 hp, or a 4.6 OHV 24 valve V8 with a more respectable 300 hp. How they did a 3 valve per cyl. pushrod engine, I have no idea. It sounds like this was a misprint, and perhaps both engines come from Ford and both are OHC. Further, I couldn't find any price info on the site. Did learn there is a Studebaker SUV for '06 with a supercharged engine of some sort.
I do want to point out that this "new" Avanti DOES look better "in person" than in any of the pics (the site has better ones). Our local MB dealer sold his used '03 in two days, at a price the dealer's general manager (a friend of mine) said was "confidential."
On this subject, I have a crazy old ex wife (doesn't everybody?) from whom I have been divorced for almost 30 glorious years --- and she has her original high school car. It is a '63 Studebaker Lark Daytona convertible, which is semi restored and which she still drves sometimes. It's a six with a 3 speed manual with overdrive in all gears, and free wheeling. It was bought new by her back during the time when Mercedes Benz cars were sold by Studebaker dealers, and when Studebaker tried to adopt some Mercedes styling cues, such as in the grill area. Ex wife has offered to give it to one of our now adult daughters. Anybody have an idea as to what it might be worth?
