By virtue of proximity, one could forward the notion that Poland was actually more of a threat to Germany than Iraq was to the U.S.
Actually I would have said ... " Poland was an easier prize ...."
Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler had the idea that Poland, and the Polish people would be useful as low paid slaves .
Poland ,as you know is rich in coal and metals.
The same parallel can be drawn with the US in Iraq.
As England conquered india and colonised the sub continent for 300 years while plundering it's wealth and subjugating it's population,Hitler envisaged Poland and eventually Russia would be Germany's "India".
George Bush senior and his cohorts coveted Iraq in the same light,A large population of easily controlled peasant peoples living on top of the worlds largest oil reserves. The population would be controlled by a puppet governnment ,given just enough resources on which to live while working for the USA pumping oil out ot world markets which would controlled by the USA.
Thus Iraq was to the USA's "India" .
The only problem not forseen by David Wolfowitz and Donald Rumsfeld as they mapped out the grand scheme was that for 12 years the iraqi population had fought a war of attrition with Iran.
The result was a population of trained military people who are now fighting the USA to get rid of them off their soil.
AS an illustration of this,a close freind of mine fought in the Iran/iraq war,he has told me of battles where in one day the total casualty count of dead and wounded was 100,000!.The final death toll was in the millions!
How does the USA ever hope to force their democracy on a populace who have already lived through a "recent" war like this?
Bhagdad is indeed Bush's "Stalingrad" not his "New Dehli".
