RE: Want to make a deal Delay?
azimuth - 10/19/2005 12:27 AM
Delay won't take the deal....ever. He believes he can win. The prosecutor thinks he'll lose. That's why the deal was offered. My prediction: This whole thing will go away unless the pros. can find something-anything of substance to support his assertions. If He can't and this thing is shown to be a political manipulation of the law, this pros. will go down hard.
But he thinks he can win by playing politics with the justice system. Ever since the indictment, the local AM radio fascists have been in high gear, as usual, with the same message incessantly broadcast, as if Delay had written it himself and emailed it to them. Delay is a victim. Poor poor Tom. Bad,bad Democrats! It may work, but ultimately this all comes down to 12 jurors and the evidence. Any review of the charges shows he is obviously guilty - we have a check from a corporation for $190,000. The $190,000 check, and a list go to the Republican National Committee. Ten checks come back, written to the names on the list, and they total $190,000. Laundered corporate money, pure and simple. They got the guys who work for Delay, who have their fingerprints and signatures all over everything, dead to rights - and the rumor is one of them has roled, and he is going to tell the jury that all of this was done at Tom's direction. The case is so simple, he's dead meat.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
