Duh, of course he never used the military, doing so would only call attention to his clever manipulation of the system to avoid military service.
Each politician will play to their strengths, not their weaknesses. Clinton's greatest strength was in working a crowd. His obvious affection for people always worked for him, and still does.
Of course, there's the possibility that he didn't manipulate the system at all, that he merely realized, as did I and several million other Americans, that the mis-adventure in Vitt-nam was unwinnable and worse, a fool's errand, and that to sacrifice his one body to such a cause was beyond lunacy and so, stayed out in the most convenient way possible. This is sometimes called enlightened self-interest.
OK, lets review a few of the recent ones....
President and mrs Clinton, on vacation, dancing in a close embrace while wearing their swim suits. No music playing. Photographers present and told where to stand. Only one picture is printed, in the LA Times. In a subsequent press conference, press secretary, Mike McCurry, is highly critical of the press for that invasion of privacy--printing a picture of a "private moment". The reporters all say, "What picture"? Next day the pisture is in every newspaper. The timing?--just a week or two before the Monica story broke.
Another with Pres. Clinton-- On his visit to commemorate 50 years since D Day. While strolling on Omaha beach, he stoops down and picks up some stones and arranges them in the form of a cross, as a lone battleship glides by in the distance. Press photographers were present at just the right spot to catch the image of the President, the cross of stones and the Battleship. Oh, there are no stones on Pmaha beach-they had been placed there by an aide.
How about one more... President Clinton, on the same visit to Europe as above, visiting a US veterans cemetery in Italy. All the graves are decorated with small US flags; all neatly arranged....except one. The one ascew flag is right in front of the President, who, with a tear in his eye, stoops to straighten it up. Photographers "happen" to capture the moment.
I am not critical of President Clinton, or his staff, for arranging these Kodak moments. Every politician will do the same. Good publicity is the coin of their realm. What I find amusing is the lack of critical thinking on behalf of so many citizens who think Bush is a scoundrel for doing the same.
I'll agree with all that. Did Clinton pay some hack to speak glowingly of his proposals as Bush did with Armstrong Williams? Did Clinton pass off propaganda supporting his programs as news stories, as Bush did with the lady whose name I've (thankfully) forgotten?
At least Clinton's draft dodging was honest. Bush instead, consumed some $1 million in taxpayer funds to learn to fly a jet, then squirmed out of that service. Turns out that guard pilots are never trained to fly while in the guard. Every other guard pilot was trained in the military proper, served time as a military pilot, then was allowed to semi-retire in the guard. This I heard (on TV) from a real military pilot. Why is it this fact is rarely mentioned in any of the Bush-guard discussion?

dammit! whats wrong with this world!?
why can't we all just enjoy each other?
why does some guy have to run the entire country?
isnt that what we would call a dictatorship, if it was saddaam, or fidel, or adolf?
Did you vote in the most recent presidential election? Did anybody threaten you with a wood-chipper death if you failed to vote for a certain candidate?
If you don't know the difference between a representative democracy with free elections and an absolute dictatorship, you should not be allowed to graduate from high school. Have you graduated?

Dude, you missed the point.
Or are you suggesting that propaganda is okay as long as the goal is something that pleases you?

Gosh, B., don't you realise that in that case it wouldn't be propaganda?
