My fascination with FZ bordered on stalkerdom. Uncountable live performances, records up the grand wazoo. I used to spread a little margarine on Roxy & Elsewhere and eat it for lunch (was at the live Chicago show where it was partly recorded). His ego and across the board criticism became a bit tedious and I found solice in Judas Priest and Iron Maiden never to look back. [:p]
How many Mother's Day concerts did you attend? (For the non-Chicagoans in the crowd. The Mothers used to play Chicago every Mother's Day. It was tradition.) BTW, your familiarity with Captain Beefheart explains a lot. [:D]
I remember being dragged by my babysitting sister to my first FZ show. Young folks need to realize that concerts were like 7 bucks and growing up I probably went to 3 or 4 in a week. None of the Rolling Stones
$1500 a ticket bullshit, anyway the show opened up with 200 Motels and this opera consisting of a shapely girl in a danskin holding a bucket over her crotch while numerous guys ran around with industrial sized mops trying to get the mophead in her bucket. It was my first taste of double-entendre as an art form and if I recall correctly.......weed.
It was amazing, my sister was dating this bearded long hair freak Jim (Who later went on to own a chain of board game and chess stores and eventually die at 36 of a stress related heart attack, funny. Zappa always played the Auditorium which was built for Symphony orchestras and was the best sounding house in Chicago. Heres something weird, as I mentioned before Terry Bozzio was one of the drummers on that tour.....Ten years later, he was with his wife Dale(Missing Persons) and I got invited with my girlfriend (hot Greek Goddess) on their tour bus. After a long night involving a white flakey substance I was physically ejected from the bus by the guy who invited me and my girlfreind stayed. She later told me Terry & Dale were all over her like a cheap suit.

He could be a Bonsai ornament on a dry wobble landscape.
