Sam with the showing scalp flat top,
Particular about the point it made.
(I got it . . . )
Why, when I was knee-high to a grasshopper,
This black juice came out on a hard shelled chin.
And they called that 'tobacco juice'.
I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx.
My entire room absorbed every echo.
The music was . . . thud like.
The music was . . . thud like.
I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug.
Opaque melodies that would bug most people.
Music from the other side of the fence.
A black swan figurine lay on all color lily pads.
On a little conglomeration table of pressed black felt.
With same color shadows, in seamed knobbed knees, and what-nots.
The long hallway rolled out into oddball odd.
Beside the fly-pecked black doorway,
That looked closed on the tar-lattice street.
Up a wrought iron fire escape.
Rolled out a tiny wooden platform with dark, hard, dark rubber wheels.
Roll, skreek! Roll, skreek! Roll, skreek!
Sam with the showing scalp flat top,
Particular about the point it made.

Sam was a BASKET CASE!
A hardened dark ivory clip held . . . saleable everyday pencils.
I wish I had a pair 'o bongos!
Bongo Fury!
Bongo Fury!
Oowwwww! Bongo Fury!
(Boogie!)
Bongo Fury!
Bongo Fury . . .
Bongo Fury . . .

Capt. Beefheart wrote that^^^^

My bad. And who the hell are you, Willy the Pimp or something?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

My fascination with FZ bordered on stalkerdom. Uncountable live performances, records up the grand wazoo. I used to spread a little margarine on Roxy & Elsewhere and eat it for lunch (was at the live Chicago show where it was partly recorded). His ego and across the board criticism became a bit tedious and I found solice in Judas Priest and Iron Maiden never to look back. [:p]

I would say I was about the same. I was a big fan up until the "Apostrophe" album, which was stupid. He peaked artistically, and ran off a bunch of good musicians to boot. Went Punk & Pantera myself. I still keep copies of Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Hot Rats, and Overnight Sensation pretty much in stock, replacing them when worn out. "Sensation" is becoming a little dated, but the other two are still incredible after all these years.

RE: Frank Zappa and mrdieseldonutburns one and the same

In the late 80s Pantera played clubs in Dallas, in the Arlington area. I worked about five blocks from the house the whole band lived in, which was off Highway 80 (Division St) in Arlington, behind the strip joints. Like most strip joint areas in Texas, it was on county land outside the city limits of both Ft Worth and Arlington, so they could make all the noise they wanted. During the day, they would start practicing, and literally shut down East Arlington from all the cars that just pulled over to hear them play. It emptied the bars too. Man, the cops didn't like it. Man, those were the days.

They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. How many Mother's Day concerts did you attend? (For the non-Chicagoans in the crowd. The Mothers used to play Chicago every Mother's Day. It was tradition.) BTW, your familiarity with Captain Beefheart explains a lot. [:D]

RE: Frank Zappa and mrdieseldonutburns one and the same

I caught two of his shows, one in Dallas when he was touring the Overnight Sensation thing that was pretty good, and one at the Ft. Worth Convention Center when he was touring the "Steve's Spanking" album that just blew down the house and severely scandalized the town due to Frank getting a blow job from an alto sax during a truly psychotic rendition of "Toads of the Short Forest". He then put up an R. Crumb cartoon back drop of "Steve's Spanking", with a fat little vixen giving Steve his due from a hairbrush, and then a banana, as the song reminds us. I was stunned and stoned for a week just off the music and fumes. I can still remember every note that alto sax played on Frank's pecker.
