I think you're forgetting a large portion of the sales tax is designated to the state. Ours is presently at a wopping 9.6 percent. It would be a cluster f&ck trying to sort that out with every state in the union but I guess if they can implement the Euro anything CAN be done.

Tax the rich
Feed the poor
Until there are
Rich no more

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Would it ever work? Could it ever be implemented within any of our lifetimes?
I don't know what satanic forces sucked the brains out of the Republicans since then, but you have snared the one simple plan of theirs that disposed me to voting for them in Clinton V Dole.

It could be made to work, but there are a lot of questions that would have to be answered. Would there be any deductions or exemptions, like the ones we currently have for higher education and mortgage interest?
Would you be taxed on all of your income, or only income beyond a certain lower limit? Would there be an upper limit?

Scott
No deductions, no exemptions. That's why we call it, "flat."

My theory on taxes is pretty simple. Those who get the greatest benefits of the free enterprise system, namely the rich, should pay more for the privilege than those who don't.

No, but I have seen Alvin Lee.
