You have Eastern Racers around your neck of the woods, right? Tastes similar. The pup had approached him about a minute earlier, and a couple of weak strike attempts backed him up. He had approached a rattler once a few months back, and at a 5 foot distance the snake woke up and started rattling LOUDLY. Poor pup jumped straight up -- all four feet left the ground. His enthusiasm for approaching snakes has since waned considerably.
