Thinking of replacing my winter car. Need your suggestions

I currently have a 95 4Runner Limited in perfect condition that I use the minute it snows until late April. The motivation for me changing is twofold. One, the gas mileage is atrocious 13-14MPG but more annoying it has a small gas tank so my max range is usually 220 miles. I usually have to fill it every 2-3 days. The second reason is that the seat is killing my back.

Here are some candidates that I am considering. An Audi TT Quattro (negs are that it is small and requires premium gas) Audi A4Q, Audi AllRoad, Toyota Matrix AWD/Pontiac Vibe, Subaru WRX, Outback, Impreza Wagon and the old SVX, Mitsubishi GT VR4.

The basic criteria are AWD/4WD, reasonable to excellent gas mileage 22-30MPG. Must be able to tow a small utility trailer once in a while, good to excellent seats and automatic (only because I must have a remote starter). Price range for my winter beater @ $15K unless I'm blown away.

Fire away men (and you women folk).

RE: Thinking of replacing my winter car. Need your suggestions

I love my A4, there will always be an A4 in my car collection. It's stylish enough to park around the city, and rugged enough to take you up to the mountains.

It's great on gas, fun to drive, it handles very well (see my guard rail thread) and it has started in -40 c no problem. It's reliable and I love the car more than anything I've owned.

I have the 1.8t, but I suggest the bigger engine for the new A4 as I have heard mixed reviews on the 2.0t.
