I disagree. A lie is still a lie. Just becasue one lie supports your polical aims while another lie opposes your political aims, there is no difference. You eithetr support the concept of truth, or you make truth a casualty of politics.
Is it possible to be wrong without it being a lie? Is it possible that Bush was sincerly wrong about WMDs? If it were the case, would you call that a lie?
A child learning arithmetic says the sum of 2 and 3 is equal to three. That is a wrong statement. Is it a lie?
Yeah, a lie is a lie. And for some reason it appears to be ok with you that Bush lied, to the extent you are willing to make his arguments for him, pleading for the position he might have been just so stupid he actually believed, in spite of the data that war was the only way to proceed. Yet, you indignantly suggest the people reporting what they were seeing and hearing, in the hysteria of the aftermath of Katrina, which was by all accounts horrific, was not inadvertently exaggerated to the point of being incaccurate - it was a lie. To equate a ridiculously blown out of proportion, live report of a horrific situation, that had only the actual net effect of drawing the attention of the law enforcement agencies to the situation to restore order faster, to making a conscious decision to go to war and kill thousands of people, on purpose, based on wilfully exagerated and distorted presentations of the available data, and then continuing the killing instead of 'fessing up the original rationale was wrong by foisting new lies on us shows you really are an applogist for your political point of view. The only "harm" from the Superdome reporting you objected to is the attributing of the post Katrina horrors, and specifically the gross Superdome situation depicted in those reports to the ineptness of the Bush admininstration. Had this been just another inaccurate report of facts, such as occurs every day in the news, that left no detrimental stink on your political agenda, would you have posted this thread objecting to the report?
Yeah, I am for the truth. But I am also for addressing those things that are most offensive and harmful to all of us first. You need to get your thought process aligned with some priorities based on reality. A life threatening situation is more urgent to address than one where your neighbor's house is painted a color you don't like. Lies affecting these issues need to be addressed in the same order with the same priority. Just because they are afflicted with lies does not make them equal problems. Jim
Not one liberal on this forum has resisted the opportunity to bash Bush, calling him a liar because he relied on bad intelligence from a bunch of CIA has beens, nor have you hesitated to point out everything he has done wrong. Some of you have even gone to the point of blaming him for things that are not even his fault, all because he's an easy target for your inflamed hatred of the man.
Now that MS Fowler has rightfully pointed out what a sorry ass job the news media has done reporting the facts and citing rumors as fact because they are too damn lazy to get off their asses to check things out, you attack said person with your usual vitriolic bullshit that holds about as much water as a screen door. No one wants to hold the news media accountable for anything, even though their record for accurate reporting is dismal, at best and borders on the lines of sensationalism and entertainment.
You all cite that Bush "Lied" about the WMD's. Maybe he purposely did. But, have any of you remotely entertained the possibility that he really did rely on bad intelligence that was over exaggerated by the CIA and other persons hellbent on pursueing their own agendas rather than fight the real war on terror? Could the WMD's actually be weapons of mass destraction?
You all are ready to jump up his ass about the slow response of FEMA in the Katrina aftermath. What about the accountability of the Governor of LA and her mayoral sidekick? Again, no one wants to hold these two accountable for anything, even though they are more responsible for the tragic loss of life than the U.S. Government. You forget, the Prez and his senior officials tried to help the New Orleans people but the good mayor and the Governor Turned him down TWICE!!
Now the Prez is the chump for the thousands that were left stranded in the storm. The mayor could have used those 500 city buses that got flooded to evac these people. But yet, the Gov and the Mayor get a free pass! For once in your life, develop some BALLS where your shriveled up bags are and demand accountability for ALL. Not just Republicans! There are crooks on both sides of the aisle!
As for the news media, what have they done? Nothing, Zilch, Nada! No retractions, no "We're sorry, we erroneously reported the gang rapes, children throat slashings and multiple murders in the Superdome AS FACT!" MS Fowler is simply posting deep thoughts. Instead, the easy way out, as usual, is to attack those who are trying to deliver some common sense for a change!
