The objective press--Maryland style

In the democrat-controlled state of Maryland, the "paper of record is the once great, Baltimore Sun.
Six months ago, a staff member for (repub) Governor, Bob Ehrlich was outed for posting a rumor about dem Mayor of Baltimore O'Malley. It was rumor that democrats had circulated for years, but there was no mention of it in the press until a republican made note of it. This broohaa has been constanly in the Baltimore Sun since then.
This week, it was reported in the Washington Post and Times that two high-ranking democrat researchers had illegally obtained the credit report for the repb LT. Govenor, Michael Steele who will be running for the US Senate. After the story (from July) broke in the Washington papers, the Sun belatedly covered, with a subhead that "everybody does it". Theft of a credit report is a felony, with a mandatory 2 year jail term. The story has disappeared from the Baltimore Sun
In an unrelated stroy, The Sun is losing circulation.

Just a little look into Maryland politics. Truth is whatever supports democrats.

How is this any different from this stuff?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

I listen to O'Reilly...........

So you don't have to.....part II

The flipside to this is, while listening to his majesty last night, it looks like even he is turning against Bush.....Finally seeing the hypocracy and mending his ways.
He stated that the majority of the public now believes that Bush does not know what he is doing, "And maybe he does'nt".
This brought on a flurry of irate Bush supporters who were stunned by this revelation and his turncoat-ism. I actually started to like the big blow-hard.

O'reilly is a shameless opportunist. If he thinks his number 1 ratings slot is threatened by his support of Bush, he will dump him like a hot potato. I would not be surprised if Fox's ratings mirror Bush's slide in the polls. O'reilly tends to appeal to a wider slice of the political spectrum than Fox itself does, with his fake "working class guy" image, so he can't afford to be as blatantly partisan as assholes like Hannity, Hume and Gibson. To keep the increasingly Bush-disenchanted working class portion of his audience on his side, he may already have decided to begin the slow insertion of the knife between the shoulder blades on his old pal. Those in the know realize that Bush is toast. The entire country is sick of him, sick of his war, and now it is damn hard to argue to the common man that "the economy is booming!" when Joe Sixpack has to pay $4 for his gas. In the midst of this, Bush drives a nail into his own coffin by trying to have a "faith based hurricane" - deliberatly withholding needed help and supplies at the federal level as he stupidly plays Liber-anarchism politics with people's lives for a week. His hand-picked FEMA director turns out to be a hapless horse breeder, and his HSA Sec is a total loser, who doesn't even know facts that are on the six o'clock news. This time, instead of far away Iraq being stripped to the walls by looters as the US Army watches, his rank incompetance comes home to America, for all to see.

The gutless GOP congress is even more despised. O'reilly is a smart guy. He may have decided it is time to run away from all these morons.

RE: The objective press--Maryland style

The difference is simple;
Your example is a commentator. i.e. one who is paid to give his comments and opinions in order to casue masses of people to listen, or watch.

The Baltimore Sunpapers is, or used to be one of America's great newspapers. The Sun claims to be a news organization, however, editorializing news items has become the norm rather than the exception. The Sun has editorial pages where it can post their opinions and commentary. And they do---during the recent gubenatorial race the Sun commented that the republican lt governor, a black man, brought nothing but his race to the ticket. If that comment were made about s democart black person, all hell would have broken loose. The Sun failed to even apologize for the remark.
They are free to have any opinion they choose; however when their agenda distorts the news, they lose the right to be called an objective news paper.

We have the Chicago Tribune in a similar downward journalistic spiral. Granted, in a Democratic city such as this, if the paper were to lean one way it would be to the left, but newspapers have stockholders just like Fox, and the point is to sell papers. If the majority of Chicagoland residents believed Charlie Tuna was the newly risen Christ, it would be in the headlines.
