rant about auto transport company

So I scheduled to have my car shipped from Chicago to Seattle about 2 weeks ago and agreed to a price of $1650. Fair enough.

The car was supposed to go out today and my contact from the shipping company (they are a broker) told me the driver would be contacting me this morning. After repeated calls to my contact throughout the day (he didn't give me the number of the mover) he basically did not return my calls promptly and one time transferred me to customer service without telling me. After all was said and done, my car did not get picked up today and apparently the carrier was not aware that they had to pick up my car! Now the blame is being passed around from the brokers to the dispatchers and to the carriers. I spoke to the manager for the dispatcher and he was very curt and basically said he could get another carrier out here on Friday. I told him would they compensate for 3-4 more days of a car rental and he said they don't do that. Basically he gave me a sh*t happens excuse and just take the Friday pickup schedule.

At this point I am livid and just said to go ahead for now but I know I can cancel at any time and they will refund my deposit. Tomorrow I will be making a few phone calls to see if there is any way I can avoid giving this company my money. What's worse is I have a household move scheduled with them in October and I'm trying to reschedule that as well. Anyways, rant is over for now...thx for letting me vent. [:(!]

Didn't know you moved, bud. That would have been a great drive, well it'll all work out.

Why would you deal with a broker rather than deal directly with the actual shipper?

RE: rant about auto transport company

Had a problem last Thanksgiving shipping a Peugeot 505 from Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Lake Charles, Louisiana. I used Express Auto Transport. I was quoted $695.00. Well 2 weeks after the stated pick up deadline, the car wasn't picked up. I asked for a deposit and they said they were processing it. Well nearly a year later and still no money after countless attempts to contact. Eventually had to fly to Boston (2 stops), and take a 2 hour shuttle (dealer paid), and drive back non-stop 28 hours on Thanksgiving in a crappy car that I never drove before. Still, I ended up saving about 50 bucks, well 25 if you count the 7 odd gallons of coffee I drank to stay awake.

Yeah, I know now not to work with a broker, especially one from Florida (apparently movers are not regulated in that state). I called a company called EZ Hauling, hopefully I have better luck with them.

Hi Thrill [:)]

Try Horseless Carriage. They are nationwide I believe and will ship the car in an enclosed truck for that kind of money. Every time I have used them they have been excellent.

RE: rant about auto transport company

Well turns out the other company I called is also a broker (EZ Hauling). The company I really wanted to use (Intercity Lines) can't get the car out until late October/early November which is way too late so I decided to go with EZ Hauling. I have a pickup on the 30th and delivery on the 5th or 6th so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My wife is actually going to be handing the car over since I will be out of town already. I read one good review for EZ Hauling and haven't found a bad review on the web yet. Of course, it all depends on which carrier they hired. I'll let you know! P.S. $1495 was my quote.
