God? and stuff....

since Alfa's debating the whole religion thing, and it seems "cool" to talk about the subject, i wanted to hear opinions, to my belief, based on science and technology, that there is no such thing as God, and it is merely something madeup by primitiv intelligent humans, who could not explain their surroundings, or events, that has carried over into the modern era, as MASS DELUSION....

what are your feelings on this subject?? [?]

RE: God? and stuff....

It's a question of hedging your bets versus believes. If you totally don't believe and it happens that there is such a thing as after life then you're screwed. To make matters worse who’s religion is the right one? So the fear that is spawned from uncertainty and the clannish attitudes that is developed based on affiliation has simply made this world and each one’s lives a miserable experience. Personally I would much rather fight for placement as an alpha male to gain as many conquests as possible rather than fight for ideology, religion or some other propaganda. I recognized that I am a male that is prone to violence so I have picked my battles.
I guess if there is a God, then I am sure going to fry for all the hearts I broke and the feelings I trampled on. If there isn’t, then I think my conscience will die with me but I am sure that my legacy will linger a bit until some wounds will heal from amnesia.

I tend to agree with Stephen Hawking's observation, that God 'is something we just haven't worked out the physics of yet'. Hawkins states that one must be a little wondorous at the difference between galaxies and black holes - one bringing warmth and light and life, the other destruction of all that comes near and the sucking in of light itself, and wonder if these things give off physical waves or particles that spread the things we consider good or bad. We still have no reasonable explanation for how life springs from inert matter, or how intelligence, from the amoeba to the human brain, actually works. In all of that, there is room to speculate that something we attribute to the supernatural world, "God" if you like, exists, in a physically explainable way. I leave myself open to that possibility. The idea that he is some guy who walks on water who one day loves us and another day slaughters us by the thousands or millions for misdeeds is, in the post-Darwinian world, ludicrous. Hopefully a new faith will emerge based on accepting that what we now know scientifically is true is not automatically false for reasons of dogma, like demanding that we believe that the earth is not very old, that evolution is not obvious, etc. When that happens, I will consider being part of an organized religion again. Until then, forget it.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

With all the scientific information at our fingertips it would be foolish to believe in a god, but I do so as I would rather be ridiculed by a hundred wise men on earth than a million idiots in the firey depths of hell.

But has He ever supplied an answer to the burning question which we all await in breathless anticipation?

The thing I find interesting is how scientists who do not believe in God try to explain away intelligent design as "Nature". Yet, we can't re-create it, although we can tamper with it.

I heard a joke one time of a scientist who thought he was as good as God at "creating things". One night God came to him and said, "Okay, since you think you're good, let's have a man making contest and POOF, there they were together on an empty planet.

The scientist asked, " Didn't you make man from dirt?" God said, "Of course I did."

The scientist reached down and grabbed a handfull. God yelled, "Hey, get your own dirt!"
