RE: Federal judge declares Pledge unconstitutional
I really could care less about "harm" or innocuousness in general - my concern is that it is clearly illegal, has always been illegal, and gives ammunition to the ranting right wing religious nuts who point at it and claim it has always been thus, when the true facts are it's a Cold War relic. I also don't like it on the money, either, and that's coming next. That is the fear of the "Christian Nation" kooks - once "The Pledge" goes down, all the religious trappings they have snuck in over the years has to go.
Liver on spagetti is extreme sacrilege. Please recite after me: "One nation, under Spagetti, with Meatballs and Sauce, on the side".
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
