Fordarnized Jaguar?

Pardon me in advance since it is a non-MB related issue.
During the lunch break, I stopped at Barnes & Nobles and skimmed through magazines.
A couple of magazines introduce a new Jaguar XK coupe, which is due next spring.

Wow, I cannot believe it.
Jaguar lost its cool.[:(!]
Front end slightly reminds me Ford Taurus, and interior does not look luxurious at all.
Do not get this wrong. I like Ford as well as Jaguar since both companies have made great contribution in automotive & manufacturing industries over the last century.

It makes sense in business-strategy wise since Ford Motor Company can save some developing costs. However, I wish Ford engineer should not destroy Jaguar’s own styling.

Someday, you may expect Explore look-alike Range Rover.[:p]

At least, I wish it would not happen between Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler. Imagine Sebring or Interpid look-alike Mercedes.

RE: Fordarnized Jaguar?

I remember reading about when Ford first took control of jaguar. I do not remember the exact figures, but they were something like this----Build time for a Ford Taurus was about 10 hours--build for Jaguar was like 250 hours.
Jaguar had no concept of designing a car to be built and it took them forever to assemble them. I expect Ford went to work to improve that--I had hoped they would leave Jaguar alone to do their own styling. I like some of the cross polinisation where Lincoln LS gets a lot of Jaguar underpinnings at a Ford price.

From what I have seen of the old XK it was very swoopy, and the Taurus was also a very swoopy car. the new XK just looks to me like it's following that image with a bit of modern style with the multi-reflector lights.

Just look at it this was. It looks nothing like the New 500, which is the new Taurus.

I've thought the lines looked like Fords for sometime now.

RE: Fordarnized Jaguar?

My dad had a 1957 Jaguar 2.4 Mk I (to the best of my recollection) that was the laughing stock of the neighborhood. It constantly back-fired LOUDLY to the point that my mother and sister would slide down in their seat so as not to be seen. To me it was beautiful. Two-tone tan and dark green, big as a house with an aluminum engine. I'll scan the pictures one day so someone could tell me what exactly it was.
