RE: Reefer Madness

57% of crime is MJ related? I doubt that very much. Whoever did that study must have been smoking some crazy stuff.
It's kind of like speeding. If someone says that 57% of the accidents are because of speeding it tells me that slow people cause more accidents than speeders because at least 80% of the people on NJ roads exceed the speed limit. This means that typically we should see that 80% of the accidents out there involved speeding.
I would be shocked if only 57% of criminals were magic dragon fans - correlation does not equal causation. The past n years the drug war has been going on prove that you can't stop drug, so at least legalize them so you can get tax revenue, control the quality, and properly educate people. Anyone here remember being told what a "safe" dose of a drug is in school? I wonder how many kids died because they overdosed due to a lack of knowledge about what a typical dose is?
As to the safety of the drug in question, to my knowledge no overdoses are known to exist but the drug is typically smoked. Without the benefit of a filter pretty much ANY particulate matter that enters the lungs is a carcinogen and irritant (this includes things like sawdust and woodsmoke so I highly doubt that MJ smoke is any different). If we took the time to properly educate and study the effects of drugs we'd have a better idea as to the increase in risk of lung cancer and emphysema. Despite the anti-smoking ads, pretty much all of those 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke come from Mother Nature's tobacco leaves. That being said, who cares about the health risks as long as they're known. It should be your right to assess those risks and weigh the reward potential as long as you don't injure others in the process (but current drink-driving laws can be modified to support drugs other than alcohol).
(yes, I know a lot of people will argue that it's perfectly safe because they don't know anyone who has lung cancer, but I also don't know anyone who smokes MJ as much as people smoke cigarettes)
