But no, in America, we need a luxury bus (air-conditioned and with bathrooms, of course) to pick us up and haul our stupid butts away from danger.
You're only insensitive to their harm because you have what they lack: food, water, shelter from the heat, sanitation and overall sense of security (from the way you post, I'd say you're real secure).
These people had all this just last week (or something in resemblance). In the course of a few hours, it was all taken from them. Now they've to live with the second wave degree of catastrophe: poor sanitation, heat, bad weather, no food, no security, no water, no belongings and death is all around them.
When you see their faces on television, do you see any of them smiling? Do they look happy to you? If they could have left to begin with, it would have been better for us all. But these people are not like you and others - these people are living from paycheck to paycheck; extreme poverty.
To miss even one day of work for them would jeapordize their life - they are literally one paycheck away from disaster. That's why they couldn't flee.
Show some compassion for your fellow man. Don't parade on this forum thinking that you're the only one with US military (or ex-military) experience.
