RE: Ugly Food

It's more honest than selling salvation, and somehow, more satisfying as well...

RE: Ugly Food

Unfortunately most of my life has been spent trying to please the palate rather than cause projectile vomitting. I do have some rather bizarre books however. Asians apparently are very fond of eating insects. We discussed the worm cheese earlier. I have a Chili recipe of Aboriginal origin that calls for the use of Dingo meat and another for gun powder. These make wonderful starters for a less formal gathering:

Ant Brood Tacos

2 tablespoons butter or peanut oil?
1/2 pound ant larvae and pupae
3 serrano chilies, raw, finely chopped
1 tomato, finely chopped
Pepper and Cumin, to taste
Oregano, to taste
1 handful cilantro, chopped

This is Huitlacoche, of Aztec origin. It's a corn mold that's used in soups and stews......It's actually delicious!

Heres a lovely one from my wife. It almost spawned a domestic disturbance on the O.J. scale.

Kwaszne Mleko or sour milk.

Bear in mind she makes this during the hottest months of summer. She puts a gallon of whole milk in a glass wide mouthed jar as well as a gallon of buttermilk and covers it with a plate. That's it! Not so bad right? Now, she LEAVES IT IN THE SUN FOR THREE DAYS!!!! Right on the kitchen table. Granted the house is about 74 degrees but not where the sun is reflecting. It goes against every food safety lesson I've learned in life. Apparently the bacteria from the buttermilk prohibits any dangerous toxins from forming but I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole..........ock!
