US Govt waives clean air rules for gasoline, diesel
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration said on Wednesday it will waive for all 50 U.S. states certain federal environmental regulations through September 15 for gasoline and diesel due to a disruption in supplies caused by Hurricane Katrina.
These waivers are necessary to see that fuel is available throughout the country," said Stephen Johnson, head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The waivers will allow gasoline with higher evaporation rates and diesel fuel with a higher sulfur content to be sold
The sulfur isn't the only thing that smells.
I am aware that the problem is not quantity of oil for fuel its the nations refining capacity, it may be that cutting the additional refinement of these fuels gets it to market quicker but if the cost is more pollution, it is not worth it.
And do any of us believe that the reduced expense of refinement fuel costs will translate into lower prices at the pump?
We may all have to hold our breath, like it or not.
BTW: Is Katrina the new scapegoat for the price we pay at the pump, I thought there was a war going on?
