RE: things are getting a bit whacky down there

I guess you really do not see her point. The idea that we would send our children into war, and, yes, even to die to protect America is not the beef. While the Mrs. Sheehan might have been aprehensive about having her son volunteer for military service, it is clear she did a great job raising the boy, and had come to terms with the idea that if and when America was attacked he might go into harm's way.

The beef is, her son was originally sent to war under the guise of protecting America from Saddam's WMD stash. More than a year after that turned out to be a LIE by the President, we still had kids there dying. One of them was her son. Only at that point her son was there for the reason of the day, namely, to bring the Iraqi people freedom.

Well, part of her beef is, the President never got the Congress to authorize that as a reason to be there. And, had it been put to a vote, I doubt anything approaching even a scant minority would have voted for it. We had been attacked by Al Qaeda, and it was not very likely a humanitarian mission to Iraq costing hundreds of billions of dollars and thousands of lives would have made much progress through Congress. BUT BECAUSE WE ARE ALREADY THERE UNDER FALSE PRETENSES IT IS MORE CONVENIENT FOR BUSH TO CONTINUE LYING THAN TO COME CLEAN, AND THAT IS A PISS POOR REASON TO HAVE YOUR CHILD KILLED. It really is not that complex. Jim

I wonder why the bunkers we over ran in the first stages of this war had Chem suits and anti serum kits
supplied to them?
Did they think we were going to use that stuff.
How do I know that it was there, cause I saw it with my eyes.
No it's not complicated at all for some one who's been there and does not have to re-lie on our media
that seems to be encouraging the other side.

RE: things are getting a bit whacky down there

If you look at our history, the US had many dumb reasons for many wars. Even the excess of sinking the Lusitania was a dumb reason for the US to enter WW1. I would have use a different reason. Sinking of the Maine was another dumb reason for the Spanish-American war. It’s our government right to have its wars and scrimmages.

Congress did give Bush the power to have his war without Congress declaring war, but if the war is so bad why is Congress not stopping the war?

Get over it. There were no WMD and there are no WMD. IT WAS A LIE. To continue to kill American citizens to maintain "face" of a polical persona is criminal. It would never be supported if explicitly and nakedly disclosed for what it is.

Also, Tigger, the idea that the government has some right to expend citizens for its whims is not the basis of our Constitution. No where does it say anything like that in any of the Founding Father's documents. More like the government is of the people, by the people and for the people. The government is there to serve us, not the other way around. Killing us to save a politician's career when he is guilty of war crimes is not serving us.

Vietnam and Iraq differ significantly from earlier wars, like WW1 and WW2. They were elective on our part. We thought they would be different than they turned out. We were one of, or the only, world Super Power when we got involved. We were not the super power when we got involved in earlier wars and we did not start them. Jim

Calling me a loon may ease your troubles, but it does not make your case. No one, not even Bush, says there are WMD to be found anymore. It was a LIE. Jim

Anyone who still believes that this invasion was actually justified is simply living beyond the bounds of reason. I have heard and continue to hear a lot of cheap excuses, but I've never heard anything that even remotely resembles legitimate cause to unleash this unprovoked invasion upon a sovereign nation (if such a thing is even possible). This was an expansionist fool's errand from day one, and one which will eventually die the miserable death that it's due. If anyone -- anyone -- can relay how this invasion has had a positive impact on their personal lives, I'd love to hear it (Halliburton employees are exempt).
