Nav systems

A friend of mine just got back from Germany where he had a fresh Audi as a rental. He said that the German language nav system was much more strict than the US one when you miss a turn, adding to my fantasy that the tall, blonde, leather-wearing woman living in my MCS is planning several ways of punishing me for being very naughty and taking shortcuts without her permission. This got me thinking about other nav systems and how their personality would be when you miss a turn.

I won’t touch the American cars because we’re so polarized on every topic that the reverse of anything I could think up is also true.

A Lexus would scold you about how dishonorable it is to disobey his commands and insist that you disembowel yourself immediately.

A Renault will audibly inhale on a cigarette, hold it, exhale and then say “you sink you are so smart, you navigate now and then shut itself off.

A Ferrari will just say it doesn’t matter how you get there as long as you get there very fast and without paying attention to those pesky street signs.

A Hyundai will just copy the directions from the car next to it and charge half as much for the system.

A Jag (pre Ford, of course) would be about to tell you to enter the roundabout and then freak out because you’re driving on the wrong side of the street (they’re so frightened that they tend to leave dark spots on the driveway).

RE: Nav systems

A friend went to a dealer the other day and said, "I'd like a gas cap for my Yugo." The dealer replied, "Okay. Sounds like a fair trade."

Q: How many car salesmen does it take to change a light bulb?
A: I'm going to work this out on my calculator, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
