At the tender age of seven, I don't think I had an attitude. Imagine a seven year old receiving unsolicited racist remarks from strangers old and young whereever I went?

Perpetrators or perpetrating party will never understand the victims' points of view until they themselves become victims.

In some ways you are lucky not to have been a victim of racism, but unfortunate in lacking the empathy for those less privileged.
But in "fueling your anger" and convincing yourself that brits are all racist don't you become racist yourself? I've found that incidents of racism tend to occur most frequently to those who enjoy reading racism into everything - or at least those who were taught that a certain group is racist. But there I go being naive again...

Besides, we all know that the only real racists out there are the French.

Thanks,

Jeff

Well, what do you expect? They were running the world for a pretty long time and the whole idea of royalty. I have been to Vidor, Texas and all of England doesn’t have anything up on them. However, just as there can be some areas with very awful people there can be citizens nearyby with a completely different attitude. Since I am not in London or have any friends living in England. I really have no clue.....

Read my first post on this thread. I made a clear distinction in that post that my anger is directed towards "racist aspect of British Culture" and not the British citizenry as a whole or any particular individual.

Do I enjoy reading racism into everything? Hell no, that will be too taxing for my delicate psyche.

RE: London, Texas

Strangely enough the four years I spent together with my family in England starting at age seven, despite earlier rantings, have been one of the most magical times for everyone in my family. This incident, however, reminded me of not-so-magical reality of ugly racism that existed long before then and continues to exist today.

My mistake. Glad to see fueling the hate works for you, good luck with that.

RE: London, Texas

OK naomilla,it's gone 3.50am here, but i will briefly attempt to address and comment on some of the points you make.

I dont understand how you can claim to be an Anglophile yet consider us to be a nation of racists?

I think it's generally true that we see colored people as colored people-it's fairly obvious what color someone's skin,or hair,or eyes are but we don't care which country they hail from.We embrace and enjoy the cultural diversity in our country. We only object when immigrants abuse our hospitality.

Forgive me, but if you believe you can obtain a true, accurate and balanced view of our history by watching a few Hollywood movies, you are revealing a contemptible level of understanding and if you further allow them to fuel your 'anger towards the racist aspect of British culture'you need therapy my friend.

I don't know where or when you lived in Britain but i think in the main we adopted a moderate and tolerant attitude towards folks of African or Asian origin long before America did. When i lived in Los Angeles, a lot of the white folks i worked with would refer to the Watts riots and their legacy in very politically correct terms at the water cooler in the office, but very differently after a few drinks in the privacy of their own apartments.Equally, some African Americans that i encountered seemed to live permanently in the late 60s in terms of their attitude to their position in society and were reluctant to admit that societies evolve and move on.Blatent hypocracy from both sides.

The first time i visited India i had some interesting experiences. Some folks were full of praise for the British legacy in the sub-continent,whilst for the first time i became the target for racial abuse,by way of being spat at with gobsful of bright red betel nut spit.Apparently i was personally resposible for plundering the wealth of their country, where in reality my annual spend and contribution to the Indian economy was in excess of $10 million (i bought a lot of cashews!)
When i went to visit the Taj Mahal, the first guide that approached me refused to continue when he realised i was British and not German-it doesn't get much more insulting than that mate!

Are you implying that India is a racist country? But saints like Ghandi came from there:
http://www.trinicenter.com/WorldNews/ghandi4.htm

Of course it was a different time, but the Indian culture is still rife with caste system legacy. I found it kind of sickening when I was in Taipei and saw a news story about an enterprising Taiwanese man who was using the untouchables as workforce in his Indian leather shop - seems like a special kind of twisted to me...

Thanks,

Jeff

I must have got he wrong news information. My source mention that the suspect jump over the barrier, ran from the Police, did not stop when ask, and still continue to run after the Police tackle him down. Under those circumstances, I would have shoot to.

I just cannot see how some of you got racism in this? If England were a trigger-happy culture like some of you claimed, their Policemen would shoot first than bother to run after him.

I have a great idea, let every one know to stop when ask by Police.
