RE: My "new" 1989 Syncro Westfalia
I have a 1991 White syncro west in my garage too! We have had it since 1997 or so and it has about 55K original miles. This is the absolutely best camper I have ever owned. Amazingly capable, lots of room, sleeps 4, parks in a regular garage and normal parking spot on the curb AND goes off road in an amazing way.
I have the decoupler kit but have not installed it yet. Let me know how yours works. I have a very aggressive VC which I have contemplated replacing with a solid shaft. Leet me how you like yours.
You are living in westyville (Portland)- lots of them down there. Actually quite a few syncros here too due to their great abilities in snow.
I am on the verge of getting 15 or 16 inch wheels to get a bit of lift and upgrading the front brakes using the audi brakes. Does yours have the OEM 14" wheels? I am not sure if I shoudl go for 16 or 15" becasue then the power issue steps up which is the engine dilema but there is a new kit coming along to install the Ford engine from the Focus - pretty cool!
Are you on the sycnro list? It is a great source of info.
Great rig and I too like having two SDP products in the garage. Ironically now that the 1999 G500 is sold and replaced with a 1990 300GD, the syncro is back to being the youngster in the family again.
