RE: Explosions in London this morning

I attended a "town hall" meeting last night hosted by my local congressman, Mr. Tom Delay. He told us that we were in Iraq so that we wouldn't have to fight the terrorists on the streets of London or New York. Apparently these guys didn't get Mr. Delay's memo.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

How about Bush, Neo-cons, etc...? Could this tragedy have been avoided if the Brits would have stayed out of Iraq? True, we will never know for sure. And I'm sure that in the short term the public, both in the UK and US will back the government. In the long term, the debate over Iraq just got a lot uglier.

I can't help but think that if the US and British war effort was actually focused on Al Queda instead of on stealing oil and fighting Iraqi goat farmers as they hunt for phantom WMDs, that this could have been avoided. This entire war effort has been botched. I have no doubt the terrorists who did this fine tuned their bomb making skills in Iraq, where we have set up a permenant training ground and recruitment program for them.

My prayers go out to London. Hopefully future attacks can be avoided.

First the 2012 Olympics (joyous) and this (tragic).

When I first heard the news, I thought it was the radical Parisien(ne)s taking it out on London after losing the bid to host the Olympics with homemade stink bombs.

In some ways, I wish it was just that since as we hear more about the blasts, the more sinister the report gets.

I, for one, still don't get the link between Iraq and Al Qaeda except that the invasion of Iraq is giving the latter a good excuse for their attacks. Did invading Iraq make US/UK any safer? And what about the latest on the Freedom Tower? Because of the macho US foreign policy, the tower is forced to sit upon a forbidding concrete pedestal. The tower signifies nothing about freedom but everything about fear. One might as well installed a 1776 foot tall bollard there.

I snickered at your remark about the stink bombs until I recalled unwrapping a 2 kg piece of Morbiet cheese and instantly recoiling. This fetid substance could wreak havoc in a subway or similar closed area.

I've actually met some Frenchmen who could double as stink bombs.

Well maybe this will accelerate Blair's demise. He needs to go. Anyone who had anything to do with the silly Iraqi farce has got to go.

PS An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
