RE: Paul Harvey's tribute to genocide and slavery
I'm always amused at racial theories of history, and how the replacement of the ruling class by their slaves as the majority in a society seems to be considered "bad" by those being replaced. If they looked in the mirror, they might figure out who the person was that allowed it to happen. Our borders have been wide open for one reason, and one reason only - to provide cheap labor for the ruling class. It has happened throughout history. I find it amusing to see the far right wingers tag illegal immigration as some 'socialist' phenom, when in fact it is symptomatic of capitalist societies throughout history. In a way, in America it is justice - we tried to exterminate these people in the 1870's and on, and forced them into Mexico after wiping them out here. It is only right that they should now take it back from the ancestors of those who murdered and enslaved them, and converted them to the paupers they are today. If there is anything left of the American democratic system when they become the majority in the 2040's, I hope these people use this power to tax the crap out of the former ruling class of this capitalist system to pay for what it did to these and other native or enslaved people in this country. The white ruling class has essentially prospered off the blood it has sucked from these people for centuries.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
