RE: I have a difficult time understanding when a company makes $17 biilion in sales,
The level of quality from China is dependent on who is running the factories. Most of the Chinese factories are actually owned and operated by Taiwanese and Japanese businessmen, who give the Chinese Communist Party a cut of the profits. China has them segregated in free-enterprise zones along the coast. In the interior of China, there are Chinese-run factories that make cheap junk. The Japanese-owned factories are making all kinds of sophisticated stuff, like advanced computers, etc, that the Chinese are learning all about. If we don't wake up, over the next twenty years, they will crush us economically.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
