...damn, now I've got that stoopid song stuck in my head--thanks a lot!
Don't you just love it? I was going to use...
"Who Let the Changs Out?, Who, Who, Who Who?" (who let the dogs out)
"My-Chink-Owna" (my sharona),
or the "mychinkowna" dance... (macarena)

Those are sure to infect your short term memory as well.

But I thought the incorporated slurs less than desireable. Maybe, to reflect the burgeoning new world order, I should reverse the slurs...
"Round-eye" ('round here, counting crows)

Could it be that they saw all of this coming in the 80s?
"Every Body Have Fun Tonight, Every Body Wang Chung tonight"

Calm down!! Haven't we seen this before? OK, I am going to date myself. But back in the '80s, the Japanese were buying everything America that they could not kill for in WWII. Remember? See what happens to the Japanese since? History has a tendency to repeat itself every so often. Just calm the fuck down and learn from the past.

this is not remotely the same thing. In this case, we're dealing with our population plus one billion, who largely enjoy a deplorable standard of living. Wal*Mart opens it's first stores in China this year. If even 1/4 of the chinese get the idea in their heads that they would like to have a standard of living close to what the lower middle class americans have, we're done. The resource demand alone for this undertaking will be unprecedented. And, the environmental impact will be catastrophic. The chinese know this, and are starting to aquire energy companies. Add to this the fact that they already bankroll our debt, and you'll see that the situation is quite different than that of Japan. Japan depended completely on trade too, and China is largely self-sufficient.
Also, learning from the past is great, but there is no causal link between disparate events that requires them to resolve in similar ways. History does not have a tendancy to do anything; things happen and we contextualize them. Sure, we like to point to events that look similar and say, "gee, lookie here, the same things happen, again and again" and assume the same for the future. But that's really taking the ostrich's way out. Heads in sands do not make the surrounds different. This is not Japan in the 80s. This is China in the new millenium. You'll see.

Then I suggest you go pick up Dr. Thomas Freeman's new book "The Earth is Flat".

Part of the premise of that book is that if the current generation of Americans can't compete or innovate as well as the rest of the world . . . it's game over for the US economy. We only have a slight advantage in technology and research, but other places have pulled even and are passing us.

The only thing more painful than an American super-corporation is a Chinese Super Corporation buying an American supercorporation with American dollars from Chinese factories making cheap American products.

That is one messed up situation when the Canadians have more choice than the Americans.

BTW: Have you all seen how some Chinese people skin dogs alive and throw them on a pile to die. Imagine being in the sun without skin and being under so much stress that you die from pain.

I personally think that pets suck but I dont know if I want someone like that taking over the food and fur business in my country.

I think China is revving up for an invasion of Taiwan. They will need the energy to do so and to rebuff any conflict that arises as a result.
