RE: Non-starter !
Not neccesarily a bad battery - maybe a very corroded contact on the starter solenoid. So whilst battery is good, integrity of power connection to solenoid is bad....hence no starter spin.
And do not rule out a new battery being bad either - they sit on the parts shelves for quite a while, during which time they can lose their power.
MB has now stopped shipping pre-filled batteries because of this. Here in the UK, if you buy a new battery from MB, it comes with 6 bottles of acid. You take it home, fill up each of the 6 cells, leave for an hour and it's ready to go. That way, you have a battery that has begun it's life from the moment you bought it....not 6 months ago when it landed on the parts dept shelf !
Connect a voltmeter to the battery - it should read over 12 volts if it's good, especially if it's going to have any chance of spinning a 560 V8 ! With the car started it should read over 14 volts.
The fact that they have bought a new battery recently suggests a power drain, whch probably killed the old battery and has now also drained the new battery too.
