RE: The things I have learned in life
A few more:
If you've got a really persistent ball of snot way up in there, and you endeavor to teach that booger a lesson while you are driving, about the time you reach the second knuckle, a real attractive woman will drive by, and her "come hither" look that she has been preparing because you drive a cool car, will immediately change to one of revulsion and disgust as she hits the gas.
The "nine month old puppy" you adopt from the shelter in a fit of compassion, turns out to be a three old breed mare from a puppy mill, who the vet estimates will cost you $3,000 to treat of the thirty nine diseases and chronic conditions it has. Likewise for the sweet little stray kitty you adopted, who turns out to be a feral cat from the dumpsters of Mexico City, who pummels you furniture and rips the flesh of all your lady friends who attempt to pat it.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
