RE: how to help beggars

I haven't seen any begger here in this town. Too cold in winter for them I guess. But when I was in LA, there's ton of them. Most typical were those who held a sign saying I'd work for food and others...da da da. One time I had nothing to do but sitting in a coffee shop looking at him for a bit, a car from no where pulled over next to him. And he took out a big roll of bills and handed it to the driver and the driver took off. Looked like a scam of the lazy group.
In Houston we have a religious cult that runs a scam exactly like that, probably the same bunch. Run by some guy who calls himself "Tony Alamo". I doubt if you will see many beggers in the northern midwest - they like warm climates or big North Eastern cities were the soup kitchens and welfare is flowing like milk and honey. Them dour old midwesterners wil just given them a good Mizzoura style ass kicking.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
