RE: Drudge goes mental over Dean
The poll numbers are not bearing out your assertions. Despite the best efforts of the right wing, and the worst behavior on the part of Dean, support for the GOP is slipping while support for the Dems is increasing. The reason is simple - the religious wing of the GOP is getting its first real turn in leadership roles in the GOP, and they are scaring the shit out of the average voters. The anti-SSI politicians led by Bush, who were forced to keep their mouths shut for years, have also had their day in the forefront, and they too are scaring the shit out of average voters. On top of that, Mr, Bush, who rode on the coattails of 9-11 for years, is finally starting to look like what he really is - a guy who is not too smart in the first place, who walked us into a very, very stupid war. Unless something big happens, the GOP are going to be routed in the off year elections, which means the shehanigans of the last six years will finally be investigated. All bad news for the GOP. The only thing I frevently hope for is that the GOP does not stop doing what they have been doing since election day.
The Dems don't need an agenda. Just kick back and watch the meltdown.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
