What side of Houston do you live on?

I've read the technical report from which this article derives. It is not trivial but it is not necessarily difficult reading. If you liked science in HS you should be able to get through it okay.

I live in the Galleria area. My last home survived the flood and I bought this one right after. Took note of high areas during the flood and found a neighborhood that would be secure for a long time. My underground parking garage was flooded for weeks!

One of my bro's lives in KV's stomping grounds, near Kemah. He didn't get water in his house because of random dumb luck. He didn't know about contour lines and wetlands and drainage, all he wanted was a nice house convenient to JSC. Water came up to his house and into his pool but didn't get above the foudnation. He feels real smart. Ha! Subsidence will give him a what for. In a hundred years or so.

He won't have to wait that long - overdevelopment in this area is resulting in major new flooding. Right now there is a big local fight over the golf course that is at the heart of the Clear Lake City development. The owner wants to sell it for building lots. Those against it show studies saying the increased building will be beyond the storm drainage systems limits and will affect the whole area. IN addition, a number of metereologists believe a permenant low pressure area is being formed over the Houston area due to massive heating of the atmosphere by refinery operations and heat reflection from concrete. This in it itself may cause more flooding.

Perhaps that is the real reason it is sinking.

As does Texas as a whole.

Actually, the Austin - Hill Country area is quite nice. Other than that, I agree that the other 95% basically sucks.

Of course, to paraphrase Edward I in Braveheart, the trouble with Texas is it is full of Texans.
