RE: What side of Houston do you live on?
Texans are slaves to big corporations. They let them butt bang them anyway they want. Take a drive to Jewett, Texas some day. You'll find the largest strip mine in the world, where a stretch of land the size of Rhode Island has been turned into the surface of the moon. Then drive on out to East Texas, where the ground water is full arsenic, a poison that is fed to chickens to make them mature in six weeks. From there, visit Mt. Pleasant, where the stench in the air will make you vomit, and then take a little trip over to Monticello, the home of another huge strip mine. Then take a trip down to the Gulf Coast, and take a good gulp full of Gulf air. You may recover from it in a day or so. Then of course, there are the big cities, where out-of-control growth and lack of urban planning thanks to some of the most bribed politicians in the country has created the ugliest cities in the US, cities with no green space and massive heat from a world glazed over in concrete. This state is a disaster.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
