Well,how about just calling them 'fries' and leaving out the 'French' prefix altogether.
After all,the French did not bring the potato from the New World,it was the Spanish and the English that introduced them to Europe and i suspect we have been frying them ever since.
In anycase, the French have other things named in their honour which are much more evocative of France namely the 'French disease'-Syphilis and 'French letters'-condoms.
