RE: A smoking gun incriminates Bush as Mass Murderer in Chief
What's new about this memo is that, 1) it comes from outside the administration; and 2) it verifies sources within the administration (O'Neill, Clarke) who had been villified and accused of having personal axes to grind when they spoke the truth about administration intentions as stated clearly from inauguration day, 2001, onward. Those intentions were to attack Iraq, under whatever justification could be manipulated sufficiently to secure whatever approval they sought from the Congress.
It reveals what circumstantial evidence had long suggested--that the Iraq War was the result of a deliberate misinformation campaign. The government cynically used propaganda on its own citizenry to start a war it had no business starting.
It is a far greater crime than that committed by Nixon (who would have been, and should have been, impeached), and the venal Clinton (who was impeached). Were it not for Republican majorities in both houses, there might actually be talk of impeachment. As it is, the mainstream media will treat it with the usual yawn, intent as they are to report on really important stories, like the runaway bride, Michael Jackson, and Terri Schiavo.
