What about Bush doe people approve of?

I stole KV's link from the Ann Coulter thing and found this unusual way of looking at statistics...

Quote:
Americans Love the Way Bush Handling Something

A new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll shows that 48% of Americans approve of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president. But when the poll-takers asked respondents if they approved or disapproved of the way President Bush is handling six specific issues, the results weren't as good. On the low end, only 27% approved of the way he's handling gas prices. On the high end, 45% approved of the way he's handling foreign affairs. And his average approval rating for these six specific issues? Just 37%, or 11 percentage points lower than his overall approval ratings. So obviously Bush is handling something in a way that people absolutely love; it's just not clear what. Our own opinion: We strongly approve of 83% of the faces he makes at town hall meetings. (His tell-ya-what-I'm-gonna-do deal-closer look -- bottom row, far right -- could use a little work.) — GREG BEATO

The site moderator is a democrat!

Since I have yet to read one coherent response from even the most vehement GOP member of this board, I must assume that such posts have been deleted by the moderator. Who would have thought? We're not even safe on a Mercedes Benz forum of all places! MB really has gone down. Then again, does not MB stand for Molks Bagen, which translates to "the car of the people" (please excuse my German, it might be a bit rusty).

I feel so miserable without you; its almost like having you here.

What about "buck people"?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

RE: What about Bush doe people approve of?

I recently re-read Randolph Bourne's 'War is the Health of the State'. I am also reading Mein Kampf.
I suspect part of Bush's appeal might be his ability to lose himself in the mystical body of 'The State'. In times of threat and uncertainty, the psychological comfort and return to childhood security permitted by absorption into the all encompassing power of 'The State' is very attractive. Bush's ability to do this (or his skill in communicating that he is doing it when he isn't) connects with many people's need to do the same. I believe his popularity has little to do with either the popularity of his programs or his success in executing his policies. It's far more primitive than that.

Clinton (and Kerry) had sex appeal but they didn't have 'State' appeal. Their intellects stood in the way of their submission to the mystical body of the State. Bush doesn't have this problem.
