RE: Current Young-Bride-Murder-of-the-Month
That actually occurred to me, but some where along the line I saw a video tape of the women, in which she seemed quite natural - the strange look in the still pictures is some kind of mugging she is doing for the camera. It was pretty obvious to me in about the first hour of the story that she was a wack job and the idea she was murdered seemed pretty far fetched. What was truly telling of the current state of our news media was how the two self-appointed interpreters of all murder mysteries and doings of our national child molestors, Greta and Nancy, immediately went into examining every move the boyfriend made with an insinuation the motivation behind his actions was he was guilty. This is what our new news media, which is supposedly some improvement over the Dan Rather/ Walter Conkrite days, is all about - exploitation of people's lives because misery sells, and it is also politically useful in that stories like this keep the stories that are currently embarrasing to the corporate-political establishment that runs this country off the front pages. Instead of 123 dead in Iraq in the last three days, we have had three days of some mentally impaired asshole and her self-obsessed inner circle on the news with some mundane story of a nut who got cold feet. Pushed to the back pages is stories of ever more torture of our POWs, the rapidly failing economy and tanking stock market. Welcome to the Age of Propaganda.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
