RE: Are you making more or less since W. took office?
Its hard for me to say, since 1999 and 2000 were such banner years in the computer industry. Compared to an average year, about the same, compared to 2000, less. My real concern is the looming loss of the technology industry in this country. The most cutting edge technology, the stuff businesses find too risky for investment, need government support. Technology got that kind of support under the Democrats, who funded the space program, the Internet and also provided a lot of the seed money and research grants for semi-conductors, but now those days are over. You can see the results at NASA - the existing tech companies, who essentially pay bribes to key Congressman under the guise of "campaign contributions" (wink wink) keep their stagnanted operations going. You can see it in the energy sector, where the oil companies, who own the executive branch of government are drilling themselves dry, its happening everywhere. Its like watching a car run out of gas.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
