RE: US founding fathers were insurgents
Dissolve at whim, Bot? How so, did they pick up the phone and call them? Perhaps they sent them an email. Truth be told, the only way the English had to enforce any British law in a colony that far away in that day and age was to send troops. It was the garrisoning of troops that precipated the war, sent just for that purpose.
As a student of the English Civil War, you should be well aware that the rights of the common man were firmly established in English territory by 1776. Even in England there was quite an outcry when the colonies were denied representation by the English Tories. Of course, they were the "conservatives" of their day.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
