RE: Why the Pope and his minions will burn in Hell!

Speaking of comedians...I saw a comedian talking about this once. His take:

Why is it when I was growing up if I ate a hot dog on Friday I was going straight to hell but they have to have a convention to decide how many kids it's ok to fuck?

Sex with minor bad. No two ways about it. Very bad. But give the Catholics a break, as if the whole damn religion is responsible for acts of a few. Lose the emotional, media fed hype. These people need a whaaaambulance. Suckers just live to be sickeningly self righteous.
Shane, I get the impression you want to be forgiving and understanding here, but this really isn't an extrapolation of a few bad 'un over the whole of Catholicism. I used to be a Catholic, my family are/were Catholics, my friends etc. As I said above, I know directly of friends molested, I have seen the hypocrisy, the control freakery, the suppression of dissent and the superstition planted in intelligent minds that takes half a lifetime to shake off, ad nauseam. If you want to get intellectual about it go read Russell's 'History of Western Philosopy' for a two thousand year wide perspective of the church. It boils down to one word: Power. It isn't a matter of giving the poor victimised Catholic Church a break, it's a matter of them getting their damaging mediaeval doctrines and hypocrisy in order and stopping pretending they are reflecting the teachings of Jesus whilst dressed in silk and gold.

I guess everyone at Motown, or the whole recording industry will go to Dante's Inferno because of MJ. [:0]

Yes Catholicism is corrupt. But lets keep things in perspective here. (I can't believe I am arguing this) But can you save some of the super self righteous indignation for something that affects millions of people instead of thousands? Like maybe crazy dictators and greedy self serving politicians who are the cause for millions of deaths each year but who are never held responsible because it does not register as bad as a couple of perverts who molest poor kids.

Bloody hell, this isn't going in at all is it? How many people do you think the Catholic Church affects? It's not just about child molestors. Jeeezzzz...

Perhaps you should study up a bit on the history of Catholicism. I challenge anyone to name an organization or government that has had a more profound and heinous impact on the history of western civilization than the Catholic church.

RE: Why the Pope and his minions will burn in Hell!

And the latest trend is... And the media dictates... And the public is currently outraged by... Child molestation is heinous, and all the associated victims and families it enevitably affects. But aren't there other more pressing problems to expend all this disgust upon? Can't we get this disgusted over lying politicians for example?

The Third Reich. Stalin. W. And any asshole dictator/gov't. ad nauseum who has dreams of military grandeur while ignoring the welfare of his subjects. These are but a touch of the things worse than the Catholic church. Mind you I talking about the last few centuries, and not the freakin' Borgia family.

It is pretty clear by now that you have no idea what you are talking about. Go find out.
