"and we see Bush and Busher working their nuts off to kiss the asses of these nuts." So if they did nothing even though the Schiavo's requested their help, the majority of the country would have said. Good for them. Right or wrong, I think they were damned if they do, damned if they don't.
You sure like to generalize. I guess by your assumption, all Republican's are right wing cram it, my way or the highway people. Down with the law, civil liberties and freedom. Best thing that happened to the Democrats. Since when does it stop being good for the American legal system and just good for Democrats. I beg to differ.
Actually, I miss the old Republican Party. There was a time they represented fiscal responsibility and individual rights over the rights of the state, and I respected that and voted for them when I thought it was the right thing to do - hell, I voted for Reagan twice. But those days are over, and the Schiavo case absolutely demonstrates it. The party that claims it represents the idea that the state should stay out of people's lives takes the most powerful organs of government and interferes with a personal tragedy in a way that is simply incredible for its hypocrisy. The organized religious crazies show their control of the leadership of The Party by pressuring governors and presidents to act like fascists, enlisting state police organizations and unconstitutional laws in their attempt to interfere with a state court decision that they don't like the out come of. How are we now to be secure in our trust of the law? Can one now go to court and expect justice, or must one pay off a powerful congressman so that he does not bring a legislative action to nullify justice, or fear a governor who may place me under arrest if I win the case? Or should I now fear murder, as MR. SClasse so amply demonstrates, at the hand of a government-supported mob who wishes to kill me because I prevailed in court?
The new Republican Party is committed to an assault on our judicial system - they screech it constantly, they have bray like jackasses that the judges in this country are responsible for every social ill - for one purpose - to subvert the law to their will so that unconstitutional laws will stand. These are not the Republicans of old, they are fascists, fascists who wish to force me to live in their "Christian Nation", with their courthouses adorned in religous dogma and the schoolhouses turned into churches, where women are forced to bear children they do not want, where beneficial medicine and science must be stopped on religious grounds because some nut thinks a zygote in a test tube is a human being, where families are forced to watch loved ones suffer because "life is sacred", where people who are gay are thrown into prisons. Yeah, well screw that. At least I have enough freedom left to express one thing - the real purpose of these so-called "Republicans" is to end the judicial system's role in this country as our last and greatest protection from a coercive, fascist state, and they tried to use this case to further that agenda. No generalization here, just someone caling a spade a spade.
