RE: Tom Delay, George Bush, and blatant hypocrisy in the Schiavo case
Nothing exposes Republican hypocrisy more than this case. As governor, George Bush rejected every plea for clemency from the Parole Board, and executed people for no greater reason than pure political pandering. One in particular, Carla Faye Tucker, was an obviously rehabilitated person who deserved a simple communtation of her death penalty into life in prison. Buysh laughed and made jokes about executing her. Another man was probably innocent, and deserved a chance to live long enough to prove it. A few others had enough questions in their cases to indicate a need for restraint. But Gerogie wanted to be president, so he killed them. Now he stands up and tells us to "choose life - to err on the side of life". Makes me want to vomit.
Now the whole movement shows their hypocrisy. They vote for policies of death and war, denial of healthcare to the poor, fight any rise in the minimum wage, work to destroy social protections for the elderly, strive mightly to allow industry to pollute the environment for the sake of profit, and then tell us what "Christians" they are because they have found a terminal case to rant about. Sorry MS, the repubs have the dems beat in spades when it comes to hypocrisy.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
