In this case, I think the issue boils down to who gets to decide the wishes of a person who cannot communicate them. It seems to me that there is merit in the view that the husband has that right since the wife chose the husband of her own free will, whereas there was no option with the parents.
But the core issue is the right to suicide. How does anyone, the State, the parents, or God, get the right to coerce a person to live if the person does not want to?
If neither the State, our parents, or God have the right to tell us to do things like reproduce etc, how could they ever get the right to to tell us we have to live?
I agree with you completely, Kerry.
The point I was wandering around trying to make is that most of us don't think about these things until we are faced with them directly and haven't the luxury of time and cool reflection. By politicizing this affair, it has brought it to the attention of a wider audience and people have an opportunity to think and discuss now, before they are faced with awesome decisions.
At first I thought that politicians should butt-out and let the husband decide. Ultimately, I still believe that. But it occurred to me that this decision is very political and it should be fully explored from all angles. The best way to do that is to get the politicians scrounging for camera time. In that way all teh arguments get heard and the public is forced to ask these questions of their own lives. And that is a good thing.
Always follow your first instinct. I wholeheartedly agree with your first sentence and will only expand on that point to say that everyone should simply butt out and at least pretend that they have a life of their own, particularly the idiot protesters. Furthermore, this didn't become a media or political circus all by itself. This reeks of blatant selfishness on the part of this poor creature's parents. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- shame on them.
Bullshit......Fox news has the facts and this other nutcase is portraying Liberal propaganda.....
Hahahahaahahahahaha! Good one! And 62% of Fox viewers think the husband should have the decision. Looks like despite Fox's propaganda efforts, most people still think for themselves.

Plainly the sheep and the wolf are not agreed upon a definition of the word liberty; and precisely the same difference prevails today among human creatures.
