Is it my computer or are there problems with this site?

Is it my computer or are there problems with this site? Hangs when loading pages – very, very slow. Reload does nothing – very frustrating. I can walk away for coffee while a page loads.

This is undoubtedly the slowest forum in the known universe. Firefox web browser actually helps quite a bit -- much faster than IE, particularly if you have broadband.

I actually haven't seen much difference between dial up and broadband, indicating the problem is on the server end. Perhaps if we began a charity campaign to buy the guy a quad processor server.....

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

This is a very sloooooow site. Even with a T1 at work and cable at home it takes a long time to load.

It is the server. Currently there are 150 users online. Here is a picture from my firewall showing relative bandwidth. From L to Rt, the first is loading the W126 forum, the next is accessing a thread, followed by weather.com and last is apple.com.

there are also good firefox tweaks now that you can do which speed that browser up considerably.
means a lot for this site .. and makes others even faster. just do a google search and/or go on mozillazine.

I doubt if a browser will make any difference. Try a little experiment - hit the submit button on the psot then hit the stop button on your browser. Check the thread a minute later and you will see your message is there - in other words, there is no bandwidth or client bottleneck, the slow spot happens after it hits the server. My guess is it is in the way the software is addressing the backend database - it is reading lots of records or updating indexes either unnecessarily or in the wrong order as it posts your message to the database, and is unable to present your post back to your until it finishes these tasks. The choice is either to rewrite some code or pump up the server hardware to overcome the slow code. Nowadays, hardware is so cheap that is the best answer, unless of course they are already on an updated platform.

I just did it.

Installed Firefox and tweaked the settings as described in Mozillazine. I've got a fast broadband connection and these pages now load in about three seconds.

Unbelievable difference from IE.

If you have broadband, definitely get Firefox and tweak it.

You can doubt all you want. As I said before, Firefox loads this site much faster. Experience trumps theory.
