RE: What is your favorite brew, and WHY?

Anyone ever taste any brews from Japan? Sapporo is pretty good. Try Asahi Black, not bad at all.

West-Malle trapist beer, served in the tavern right across the abbey where they brew this rich trappist beer over here in Belgium (Antwerp). Heavenly [:0]

Can you still buy that??

Amazingly, yes - my local Safeway (Morrisons) has it. £1.25 a bottle - bargain. I've bought it from specialist beer shops too (but usually overpriced).

It's a really nice beer - sherry, licorice, malt & roast barley. Mmmmm...

Man, that makes me REALLY thirsty! A six pack of those would do-you-in. [:D]

RE: What is your favorite brew, and WHY?

It's pretty strong stuff. I usually only have a single bottle and then go on to something with less of a kick.

I do a littl ehomebrewing (like a few others here). Reading up on the history of brewing turns up some interesting facts. The stuff we drink was considered fit only for women and children in the nineteenth century (say OG 1050) while ordinary ale had an OG of over 1080. Agricultural workers would easily put away a GALLON of this a day - it was a great source of calories. Makes me wonder about their accident rates, though!
