RE: A HISTORYCAL DAY in Lebanon

The women, the coastline are breathtaking. The Lebanese people are warm and friendly. The food is to die for. They absolutely deserve to govern themselves.

Now lets get real. There are about a dozen or so Syrian multi multi millionaires who control and need Lebanon to fill their families pockets. They own or control everything in Lebanon that is worth controlling or owning.

Honestly, does anybody think these Syrians are just going home and giving up the fruit of their ill-gotten gains? Anybody?

Well, thanks MRTIKKET for your first positive comment concerning my country. REALLY!!! Coming from you means a lot.

Concerning the Syrian withdrawal, I think it’s a done deal. The issue isn’t anymore about loosing some money here and there. It’s about the survival of the Syrian regime. The isolated Assad is under enormous threats and pressure from Lebanon and the world. All his allies in the Arab world are advising him to withdraw, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He doesn’t want to be the next Saddam.

The pressure is so huge that the presence of Syrian troops longer than a month or two is dangerous. Already there have been incidents in Lebanon of beating up Syrians. Even there has been a Syrian causality last week.

Four weeks ago, I would have completely agreed with you on this point. I would have never expected them to be thinking of leaving so soon. But since the assassination of Hariri, it seems very evident and inevitable. Already one third of the troops have left Lebanon into Syria last week. The intelligence offices in Beirut left today. Most analysts believe that they will be gone before the elections in May. So we just have to wait and see, it’s less than 2 months away. The long awaited day is approaching.

Concerning the wealth in Lebanon, ironically most of it is in the hands of the opposition (mostly by Christians and Sunnis). These mass rallies are costing millions. The wealth of the Pro is mostly corrupt money.

Interesting that you mentioned the Lebanese food. Where did you experience it? Do you know their names?

RE: A HISTORYCAL DAY in Lebanon

Silver Arrow, I am 100% Armenian, and have many friends in the Lebanon region. Unfortunately, many left because of the turmoil. I eat middle eastern food, at least 3 times a week. My best friend came here from Lebanon 15 years ago, and now has the best Lebanese restaurant in Detroit Michigan. Sometimes, I drive 5 hours from Chicago just to have dinner there.

Yes, I know the Pro Syrian money is currupt. That is the toughest money to give up. Corrupt wealth.

My Christians and Muslin Lebanese friends in Windsor, Canada think all hell will break out after a year or two. They are afraid of the small minority that wants to keeps its power.

God, I haven't been to Windsor in years. It used to be one of my favorite things to do while visiting relatives in suburban Detroit

I agree, Tiggerfink. I actually just called my Lebanese friend in Detroit. He has no interest in going back. He too, feels it is just a matter of time until Lebanon becomes a very violent and dangerous place. Unfortunately, his elderly parents refuse to leave.

Yup, I had to be there. Every Lebanese should have been there. Everyone I know was there, even my folks went there with the Doctor’s association. There were a lot of American and European tourists on the outskirts of the demonstration for photographic and journalistic purposes.

Today, the second most important Syrian Intelligence office in the building next to mine left. They have been occupying two floors of the building illegally since the late 70s.
My whole family from the elder generation till the youngest nephews were there too ( 3 generations ;-), they had to leave at dawn to reach there .

Great to hear about the occupied houses getting abandoned .
There are a lot of villa’s and occupied by Syrian officers and troops which will be getting back to their owners , like we are getting back our Lebanon .

Well, no one said that gaining your independence back is easy. It’s a battle that has to be fought with no regrets and no going back. Until this moment, everything is proving to be going smoothly, and I hope the Lebanese Spring, as they call it, will be great.

When I visited the US few years ago, I admired the way Americans love their country. They hang their flag in their yards… And now in Lebanon you can witness the same thing. The Lebanese flag is on almost every car and every house.

MRTIKKET, I would have never guessed that you are Armenian. There is a very large Armenian community in Lebanon. They escaped the Turkish massacres. They are now normal Lebanese with high political and administrative positions. I have a lot of Armenian friends here. They are very nice, highly educated, creative and hardworking people. I believe that their integration into the Lebanese society was one of the best diversified additions to this country. This is in contrast to other late additions like the Palestinians where no good came out of them, but on the contrary.

It’s great that you love Lebanese food too.
