The Astrodome was one of the horrors of the modern world. It may have been fan-friendly, I don't know. I do know every position player in the NL hated the place.

Fan friendliness, one cool thing about the Astrodome...

When my Alma Mater would go down to Houston (SWC days) to play Cougar High (U of H), beer was served, and that was fan friendlier than Kyle field.

Oh, it was extremely so. Yes, the players hated it, and the Stros always lost there, but it was the most comfortable sports stadium ever built. Right now the big debate is what to do with the place. We are trying to get the Olympic Committee to consider it for a permanent international Track & Field stadium. I hope it works out - I might even take an interest in pole vaulting if it happens. Right now it's being used for high school football games. How the mighty have fallen.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

When your stadiums say something about "26 World Championships" . . . then we can discuss things. [:D]
I wouldn't support the Yankees even if I lived in NY. Backing a perennial favorite is flat-out boring. When the disappointment of defeat outweighs the thrill of victory, it's time to back another horse.

Oh so true. I do live in NY and nothing was more satisfying than watching the Red Sox pull it off.
I simply cannot imagine the trill that those Red Sox fans received when they won the pennant. It's once in a lifetime, and, some of those fans were waiting just about all of of it.

I still like the Yankees, but, with a payroll that dwarfs most of the other teams, the expectations are a bit too much at times.

It should be an interesting dynamic between Boston and the NYY, without the "1918" floating around. Actually, I'm hoping for another "Subway Series" to see if Pedro still knows who's his daddy.
