RE: Bush, the Dope Head
Interestingly, I took Clinton at his word and also accepted the explanation that his marriage was going through a rough period, etc. Those things happen to many people and I thought it spoke welll of Bill and Hillary that they were able to work things out depsite the fishbowl life they'd chosen to live.
Basicly, that's how I think the Blue Dress Mystery should have been handled. Clinton should have said something about private lives being difficult and that he was not going to involve himself or his family in a story that could bring nothing but pain. Even that would have been acceptible. Everybody screws-up. And if explained with humility and a call for privacy, I think he'd have done alright. He could have gone ahead and goverened with fewer hellhounds pursuing him.
But when he looked in the camera and said with apparent deep conviction and barely suppressed rage, "I did not have...", he asked each one of us to chose to trust him. Okay, I give him my trust. Well guess what, those Repo mofos go spelunking in the undie drawer and find a semen-stained dress. Yeah, the Repos were moralizing jerks with clay feet. But Clinton looked us in the eye and asked us to believe his lie. Straight-up. No nuance. A lie.
