RE: What's Really Wrong With the Democrats?
The idea that Bush has won some great victory is ludicrous. A truly decisive victory would have united the country - instead, look at us, we are more divided than any time in history since the Civil War. The President still scores approval ratings below 50%, and the War in Iraq is about as popular as Vietnam was. Myself, I have never seen so much political discontent as has followed this election. Between the failing War in Iraq, and the assault on Social Security, I see a lot of opportunities for the Democrats in the mid terms. If they get ahold of one branch of Congress, look out, because the Congressional investigations that would result will put all the scandals the Republican Machine is keeping buried in the daylight.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
