The Euro dropped again...

...against the dollar. The dollar is stronger, right? That means US goods cost more vs the Euro, meaning EU purchasers are less likely to buy from the USA.

Help me out here, that's a bad thing?

But we buy a Mercedes at a cheaper price and that's a good thing, right? But wait, that means we're less likely to buy GM or Ford, so that's a bad thing.

Where was I?

I should add for simplicity's sake that I'm sure the bad parts are all Bush's fault and teh good parts are all random.

Just thought I'd clear that up early so we wont have to spend billions of electrons on that particular well-worn path.

Oh, and Clinton did it first.

There.

RE: The Euro dropped again...

You simplfy the problem to the point of being ridiculous.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

Why does Bush deserve your unswerving support? Do you have something to disclose here?

RE: The Euro dropped again...

What about your unswerving criticism in the face of reality?

More importantly, can we stay focused on the dollar and the Euro?

Could somebody tell me whether the euro going down vs the dollar is good? Or is it good sometimes and not others? When is it good or bad? Is it predictable?

If one invests in overseas markets (I have a small portion of 401k investment going into an overseas index), is it good or bad when the dollar rises or falls?

I'm no economist (Mrs. Azimuth took the checkbook away years ago[V]), but don't economist's and stockmarkets like stability and very slow movements?

The Euro going down is good. When $1 = €1, we'll be back to where we were before your hero chose to alienate the rest of the world...

Yes, and isn't there a risk that if the euro strengthened against the dollar, all those foreign banks that we depend on for our constant infusion of borrowed money might want to deal in euros, rather than dollars, thus weakening our position as the world's leading debtor nation?

Well, I'll admit that my perspective isn't so broad. A weak $$ is bad for any business such as mine that relies on European imports. I would hazard a guess that the weak $$ contributed mightily to the demise of Mercedesshop's MB Autowerks.
